How long do these oil paints take to dry?
It depends on how thickly the paint is applied. Applied thinly as glazes, each glaze can be touch dry in 24 hours, ready for the new layer. If applied more thickly/impasto, allow a week. We recommend waiting at least three months before varnishing.
Are these oil paints firm enough to paint using the Bob Ross ‘wet-on-wet’ painting technique?
Yes but, as these are only 12ml tubes, you will probably use all of your white paint in mixing the thin white undercoat.
Is additional dissolvent or anything else needed?
Try mixing the oil paints with a small amount of linseed oil and/or odorless solvent, but don’t overdo it!
What will the finish look like?
The finish is satin-like, between gloss and matt.
Can I use the oil paint set without the using solvents?
The colors can be mixed without solvents. There’s nothing to stop you using a palette knife to apply the paint direct, impasto style! But without solvents you will not be able to create glazes.
