Product Description
If your beading and jewelry-making projects call for knitted, crocheted, woven, or braided wire chains, then using a paddle drawplate can help you improve their finish and final appearance. Drawplates work well on silver, copper, gold, permanently colored copper, and flexible beading wires. Try this drawplate for your next project!
Using The Beadsmith plastic wire chain drawplate gives your chains a new lease on life.
Jewelry chains benefit from being pulled through a drawplate in several different ways.
Firstly, drawing a wire chain through the right-sized hole on a drawplate will smooth it and release any kinks; while it does this, it shapes it into a nice straight chain again. A drawplate also condenses your jewelry wire, which will cause it to be work-hardened and lengthened. It does all of this without damaging or disturbing the wire finish.
To use a drawplate on a necklace chain, pick the hole that is closest to the current diameter of the chain. Slightly pinch the starter end of the chain so you can work it through the hole, then grab it with pliers. You can hold the paddle in one hand, or you can clamp it down in a vice. Use the pliers to pull the chain through the plate at a steady speed and using the same amount of strength. You may want to repeat several times through that hole to get the results you want. Or, if you want to make it even more compact, drop it down into a smaller hole, and repeat the process. Keep going as needed. Note that as the diameter of your chain necklace decreases, it will lengthen. Now you’ve got a cost-effective way to turn old and slightly damaged chains into like-new quality necklaces. Try it with all of your chains to achieve durable and professional results.
